Salford’s Lightoaks Park annual Christmas cracker event took place on 9th December (Sunday).

The day showcased festivities from Santa’s grotto to live performances from Buille Hill High School’s choir.

The event, which was organised by Lightoaks Park Friends group to raise money for the upkeep of the park.

Darren Miller, Volunteer at Lightoaks Park Friends group said:” Today’s event is festive, it’s for the whole community and to try to get as many local associations to help us with donations. It’s to make people aware of the park and to give back to the community.”

 

Lightoaks Park Friends group have been running their Christmas Cracker event for the past three years, various local groups take part each year to raise awareness for their cause.

This year, Salford Foodbank and Councillor Mike Pevitt of the Claremont Ward were at the event appealing for food donations for the local food bank.

Councillor Mike Pevitt said: “It’s a great opportunity to have the foodbank collection here as there isn’t many around the area, we did it last Christmas and the summer, and the residents are so brilliant here they normally fill the trolley and this tent too.”

The food bank was not only accepting donations but were also selling Christmas cards to raise money for the good work Lightoaks Park Friends group do.

Mince pies and mulled wine were also on offer for the community to enjoy whilst they were at the event.

The Foodbank had plenty of donations again, and the Lightoaks Park Friend group raised an amazing amount of £789.50 in donations from the event.
