Businesses in and around Salford are being urged to sign up to a new initiative that aims to raise money for community charity, Forever Manchester, through recycling Christmas cards.
The campaign is led by DCB, a group made up of print management company Print Search, creative and design agency Caspa and print company Aspen.
According to research, one billion Christmas cards are sold in the UK each year, many of which may be thrown away and not recycled.
As part of the campaign, DCB will be donating £50 for every tonne of waste they receive to Forever Manchester.
The charity aims to fund and carry out community projects across Greater Manchester, including Salford, through working with local people.
Charites across the UK estimate that £50 million is raised through the sales of charity Christmas cards each year, however DCB says it “wants to make it easier for businesses in Greater Manchester to recycle their festive cards and wrapping paper whilst doing it for a cause.”
Victoria Hart, managing director at DCB says they chose Forever Manchester as the charity for the campaign “because of their commitment to funding projects in our local communities.”
“These projects can directly affect our staff and the areas where we all live.” She added.
The company say that they targeted businesses for the fundraiser as they are based in Trafford Park, so their neighbours are all businesses too.
“We knew there are initiatives ran by supermarkets for example for individuals, but we wanted to offer a service that is tailored for businesses.”

The group will be accepting Christmas cards in late December and January, aiming to recycle and bring the material back into production by March next year.
DCB will be offering a postal/drop off address for businesses wishing to recycle cards.

Even if you are not a local business, ‘Recycle for Greater Manchester’, who work with Salford City Council, have been encouraging people to recycle at home over Christmas, sharing their tips over on their website.
They are aiming to increase the current recycling turnout of 46 percent in Salford and educate the community on the importance of recycling.
