Last night the community of Walkden gathered to remember the four young lives that were tragically lost last year in a fire.
The service remembered Brandon, Demi, Lia and Lacie Pearson, who were killed after two lit petrol bombs were thrown into their family home at around 5am on 11 December 2017.
Members of the community in Walkden attended a memorial event last night.
Organised by the grandmother of the children, Sandra Lever, members of the public lit candles and lay flowers in memory the children.
The memorial included a PowerPoint which featured images of the children. It also included a video of mother Michelle Pearson, thanking people for coming.
She told attendees, “I would like to thank the community for all their generous donations”. Michelle was unable to attend in person due to being in hospital, still recovering one year on since the incident.
A postbox that was labelled, “send a letter to heaven”, was there to collect letters of support and sympathy, which was to be given to Michelle Pearson.
The local fire station attended the event saying that they were “very honoured to be invited by the family, they got in touch with me and some of the other firefighters that were there that night, we thought it was important that we supported the family tonight”.
The Pearson family gave the brigade a commemorative plaque to honour their bravery when helping to tackle the blaze.
Station manger Jim Bridge, told us “it was a very moving gesture and it will be taking pride of place at Farnworth fire station”
Demi Pearson, 15, her brother Brandon, 8, and her sister Lacie, 7, were pronounced dead on the day of the fire. Lia, 3 was rescued from the house by her mother but tragically passed away in hospital two days after.
Businesses throughout Walkden all rallied together in support of the family in fundraising. Blades barbers, Liberty Hair design, Costa Coffee and Le Boutique all raised money for the event.
We spoke to Adam Cunliffe, who works at Blades barbers, he told us “Brandon Pearson was a customer, it was a massive shock to us and the whole community”
Another memorial service was held on the 9th December. The event was to raise money for the Wythenshawe Burns unit. The unit was very important to the family due to it being the hospital that worked tirelessly to save Michelle’s life after she suffered extensive burns.
