A man accused of killing  Salford gangland figure Paul Massey met the dead man’s son shortly after the shooting, a murder trial was told.

Mr Massey, 55, was gunned down in July 2015 just after parking his car at his Clifton home.

Steven Boyle, 35, and Mark Fellows, 38, both originally from Salford, deny murdering Mr Massey.

The two men are also accused of the murder of John Kinsella and the attempted murder of Kinsella’s partner Wendy Owen in May this year. They also deny these charges.

Yesterday, at Liverpool Crown Court, Detective Constable Simon Howe of Greater Manchester Police described how in interview Steven Boyle said he had seen Mr Massey’s son, Ste, a few hours after the shooting in which Mr Massey died.

Mr Boyle told police he saw Ste Massey’s car parked close to McDonald’s in Salford and pulled alongside him to ask how he was feeling.

Det Con Howe said that Ste Massey told Mr Boyle: “It is what it is, my dad said don’t ever be sad. It’s just something that happens.”

Mr Boyle allegedly spent 30 minutes with Ste Massey before returning to his home address.

Earlier in the trial a pathologist said Mr Massey was shot with an Uzi sub-machine gun causing fatal injuries to his lungs and heart. The jury was told the gunman followed Mr Massey down the driveway of his home on Manchester Road. Wounds to Mr Massey’s left arm suggested he was trying to defend himself as he was repeatedly shot at.

The trial continues.
