Fight Like A Girl! opens tonight at The Kings Arms in Salford to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The show has been put together by Andy Pilkington after being inspired by two incredibly brave women in his life who fought cancer, his auntie Valeriena Kenny and friend Tania Sparkles.

The event runs over three nights and will showcase eight short plays which covers most genres from comedy to heartfelt. A few of these titles expected to be performed are, Flirty Dancing, Belief in Christmas and Brothel Blind Date which is written and directed by Andy himself.

Each night will also feature a guest poet which are, Robert Steventon, Helen Darby and Broccan Tyzack-Carlin.

Andy brought the show together by reaching out to actors and writers on Facebook and was moved by the amount of support and response he received.

Andy Said:

“I was really overwhelmed, I think I got about 35 to 40 scripts and had to narrow it down to eight.”

Andy has been personally affected by cancer as he’s has to watch his friend Tania fight Perihilar Cholangiocarcinoma a rare type of bile duct cancer, and his auntie Valeriena who had bowel cancer who unfortunately passed away on November 9. Therefore he wants proceeds to go towards Cancer Research UK.

Everyone involved has come together to ensure the most amount of money can be raised for such an amazing course therefore, The Kings Arms reduced their normal hire fee of the theatre and all the writers, producers, directors and actors have given their time and skills for free.

The show runs from Thursday 20, December to Saturday 22, December from 7:30pm.

Tickets are £10 each and are available by clicking here or on the door.
