Specsavers County Championship Division Two, Emirates Old Trafford (day one)

Worcestershire 66-7: Anderson 4-14, Onions 3-25

Lancashire:

Worcestershire (0 pts) lead Lancashire (2 pts) by runs

It is advantage Lancashire following an incredible morning on the opening day of their Specsavers County Championship match against Worcestershire at Emirates Old Trafford.

Opening bowlers James Anderson and Graham Onions bowled beautifully, with pinpoint accuracy – taking seven wickets between them.

Onions struck with the 10th ball of the day after Daryl Mitchell (1) edged a delivery to Keaton Jennings at slip.

George Rhodes then strode out to the middle and knew that he and Tom Fell had to knuckle down and build a foundation.

Fell was then trapped leg-before to give Onions his second off the last ball of the eight over.

The next seven overs brought with it three wickets – all belonging to England’s most successful bowler in Test cricket, James Anderson.

Captain, Dane Vilas was reluctant to bring the pair off and they picked up one further wicket each. Anderson finished the session with four for 14 off 12 overs and Onions returned figures of three for 25 in his spell.

On the brink of the interval, Worcestershire saved themselves further embarrassment by passing their lowest score scored this century (60) which was recorded in a match at New Road against Warwickshire in 2012.
