To kick off National Dragonfly Week the Dragonfly Festival is taking place this weekend at Prince’s Park in Irlam.
The free event is hosted by The Wildlife Trust for Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside and Carbon Landscape will take place this Saturday, July 13, from 1pm to 4pm and will feature a number of family friendly activities and stalls.
The event will begin with a dragonfly lantern display that will feature lanterns made by local community groups in Salford.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn more about the origins and history of dragonflies from Professor Jigget, with performances taking place from 2 – 2.30pm and 3.15 – 3.45pm.
Other activities include:
- Meet Toby the dragon and learn about his story, you may even be lucky enough to feed him!
- Hunt around the park for Dragonfly themed Pebble art hidden around the site.
- Learn about why the moss lands are important and make a bog in a box with the Friends of Chat Moss.
There will also be dragonfly themed arts and craft activities running through the day, as well as stalls promoting local businesses and charities.
National Dragonfly Week takes place between July 15 and 23 with events and activities taking place nationwide to view and celebrate the marvellous insects.
