Sale Sharks continued their unbeaten run in the Premiership Rugby Cup thanks to a 24-20 victory over Wasps at the AJ Bell Stadium.

Two tries from Denny Solomona and a try for new recruit Akker van der Merwe sealed victory for Steve Diamond’s side.

Sale started strongly and took an early lead thanks to a try from van der Merwe. The hooker crashed over following a maul off the line-out.

Their lead was short-lived as Wasps fly-half Jacob Umaga slotted a penalty before scrum-half Sam Wolstenholme ran in from distance to tie give his side the lead.

Wasps continued to apply pressure and extended their lead through Jack Willis as the flanker darted over for the try. A penalty on the stroke of half-time gave the Coventry outfit a 20-10 lead at the break.

Whatever was said in the Sale changing room at half-time clearly worked as Solomona scored two unanswered second half tries to secure the victory.

The result means that the Sharks have a seven point lead at the top of Pool One with three wins from three.

Jono Ross and his men will look to continue their good run of form when they travel to the Madjeski Stadium next weekend to play London Irish.
