Walkden Community Volunteers have placed a total of 63 poppies on lamp posts along the remembrance parade route taking place on Sunday 10th November.
Walkden Community Volunteers have worked for nearly 3 years to get The Walkden Community Poppy Appeal project off the ground, liaising with Salford City Council, representatives from The Royal British Legion and local councillor Laura Edwards.
The chair of Walkden Community Sarah Allen said: “Walkden Community volunteers are extremely grateful to all members of the community that have supported this appeal.
“It is lovely to see the Poppies in our community to remember the fallen, those still in service and their families”
Walkden community are a group of local volunteers who aim to raise community pride in Walkden.
Holly Matthews, a member of WCV, said “For me it represents not only remembrance for the fallen soldiers but also a display of respect for our armed forces community.
“It is also a point of conversation to teach the newest in our generation the significance of the memorial poppy”
They plan two annual events, one being the Walkden Community Summer Festival at Parrfold Park and the other being Winter Wonderland in Walkden Town Centre.
The group have recently been nominated for Community Group of the Year at the Heart of Salford awards hosted by Salford CVS.
