MediaCityUK is hosting a variety of festive events this Christmas, with the Maker’s markets’ Christmas launch on Thursday November 21, plus an ice rink and various Christmas shows.

The Christmas events at MediaCityUK are set to be bigger than ever this year, and will kick off with the Christmas lights switch on, on Friday November 15, which will host a range of celebrities, from ‘Life Hacks’ stars Cell and and Katie to musical talents from the BBC Philharmonic and the popular Rock Choir.

Stephen Wild, managing director of MediaCityUK, said: “We’re delighted to be showcasing such a fantastic array of homegrown talent.

“It promises to be a magical time at MediaCityUK.”

The switch on event is Grinch themed, which coincides with the ‘Whoville’ Maker’s markets outside the Lowry Outlet.

The Maker’s markets are a set of market stalls offering a variety of food, drink, art, design, vintage and modern craft – all provided by local businesses in the North West.

While the markets usually pop up on the last Saturday and Sunday of each month, this Christmas they are set to be open every weekend from the 22nd November to the 22nd December.

Each stall is specially selected, in order to make sure that all products are unique, local and original. Everyone selected is a ‘maker’ – a person, or company that grows, rears, creates and makes their products themselves.

One popular stall at the markets is The Finest Honey, a local beekeeping business, that sells honey related products at their stall. Their products range from soaps, to lip balms, and even candle melts.

Stall Worker, Rob, explained: “We’re doing a run of the markets from next weekend right up until Christmas.

“We’re all about sustainability, helping the environment, and helping the bees”

The company has seen success since starting, with Rob explaining: “Since we started keeping bees in and around Manchester we’ve introduced around a million extra pollinators via our colonies”

The Maker’s markets are not just in Salford – their Christmas stall locations also include Deansgate, which started on Saturday 9th November and they also have their usual markets in Northern Quarter.

Christmas at MediaCityUK is a perfect alternative, or addition, to the Manchester Christmas Markets. Whether visiting the Ice Rink, lights switch on, or ‘Whoville’, there seems to be something for all the family in Salford.
