Salford City’s short FA Cup run has come to an end after their 4-1 defeat to Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium in the first round replay.

Goals from Lucas Akins, David Templeton, John Brayford and Oliver Sarkic sealed the victory for Nigel Clough’s League One side.

Burton will now play Oldham in the second round next month.

The hosts took the lead through Lukas Atkins three minutes before the break after slotting a close range effort past Chris Neal.

Salford equalised seven minutes after the break through defender Ibou Touray, but three goals in 17 minutes for Burton put the visitors out of sight.

Templeton then gave the hosts the lead once again and they didn’t look back after that.

Brayford headed the ball over the line six minutes later and Sarkic added a fourth nine minutes from time with a fine curled effort.

The win is Albion’s first FA Cup victory since December 2013, when they beat a Fleetwood side that was managed by Graham Alexander.

Salford are back in league action on Saturday. They entertain Macclesfield at the Peninsula Stadium.
