Salford City missed the chance to move closer to the League Two play-off places after they conceded a 94th minute goal away to Colchester United.
In a game where Salford had plenty of chances to turn one point into three, the Ammies ended up leaving Essex with none.
Just as it looked like Salford had done enough to secure a vital point, some poor defending from a late corner gave Colchester’s Harry Pell a free header, from which he made no mistake and won the game for his side.
Salford manager Graham Alexander spoke of his disappointment after the game.
“Obviously devastated, the same as all the players and the supporters because we didn’t deserve that, I thought second half we were excellent and first half we started well.
“I thought we were superb in the second half and then to get that in the final minute, it’s a dagger, there’s no way of putting a positive on it.”

Salford do have a reason to feel hard done by after it seemed Luke Armstrong had given the Ammies the lead during the second half.
Armstrong followed up a speculative shot that was spilled by the Colchester keeper, but his celebrations were short-lived as the linesman judged him to be offside, in what was a very tight call.
The result leaves Salford winless in three in the league and adds importance to this weekend’s game against second placed Exeter City.
However, Salford are only six points off the League Two play-off places as the club sit in 8th place with plenty of games still to play.
