With a new survey suggesting 1 in 5 will be lonely this Christmas, Salford Now want to share where will be open on the 25th
According to research from the Jury’s Inn Hotel Group, 1 in 5 adults in the UK will be lonely this Christmas.
For Salford, that means that 35,000 adults will be alone.
Here are some of the places open across the city during Christmas day, to make sure loneliness doesn’t ruin your Christmas.
1: The Salford Faith Centre
What: Aiming to reduce the number of students across the University of Salford who will be having an isolated Christmas, the faith centre will be open for a safe space to socialise, relax or pray. People of all faiths and beliefs are welcome, however you will need to register through the website.

2: The Community Christmas Dinner
What: The Salvation Army are putting on a free Christmas dinner for anyone who doesn’t have family in Salford and will be otherwise be spending Christmas alone. The meal will be hosted and sponsored by Karen’s W.D.I . There are 40 places available; call 07835157173 to book.

3: Church
What: Despite the religious roots of the festive period, people often forget that there will be a church service at most of the churches across Salford. Contact your local church to see when the best time would be to drop by.

3: Emmaus Salford
What: While any kind of loneliness is difficult, it can be particularly traumatic when people are isolated as a result of homelessness or exclusion. Emmaus Salford will be open as usual in Salford, to ensure that those who are lonely on the streets. Visit their website to find out more.

4: The Samaritans Salford & Manchester
What: Loneliness can have a serious impact on mental health, particularly in the dark depths of winter. The Salford & Manchester branch of Samaritans have walk-in appointments available across the entire festive season for those who are feeling in crisis through isolation. There free helpline will also be available across Christmas, just call 116 123.
