A film crew were spotted in Salford shooting for a brand new channel 4 show, written by multi-BAFTA award-winning writer Russell T Davies.

It is believed that other locations in Salford will be used to film the programme in the future.

The show, which was going to be titled Boys, has had to change its name due to the release of popular amazon series ‘The Boys’.

The five part series will follow the impact of AIDS on three boys in 1980s London.

Although none of them have been spotted in Eccles yet, an all star cast has been assembled for the show including, Stephen Fry, lead singer of pop group Years and Years, Olly Alexander, Keeley Hawes and How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris.

Channel 4 has released the following information on what we can expect from the new series.

A spokesperson for Channel 4 said: “It’s 1981, the start of a new decade and Ritchie, Roscoe and Colin begin a new life in London. Strangers at first, these young gay lads, and their best friend Jill, find themselves thrown together, and soon share each other’s adventures.

“But a new virus is on the rise, and soon their lives will be tested in ways they never imagined. As the decade passes, and they grow up in the shadow of AIDS, they’re determined to live and love more fiercely than ever.”

Davies is most famous for reviving Doctor Who in 2005 as executive producer, as well as his work surrounding the LGBT community. In 2007, he was ranked the most influential gay person by The Independent on Sunday.

He said nearly five years ago that a story about Britain during the AIDS crisis had been “building up” within him.

He goes onto say: “It’s the kind of story that you think has been told, but then you realize it hasn’t been told in Britain.

“I am amazed that I haven’t written this before – I am amazed no one has. I think we are reaching a bit of a generational thing now where men like me in their 50s are looking back and realizing how shocking it was.”

He created Cucumber, a Channel 4 series about middle-aged gay men in the Manchester gay scene; Banana, an E4 series about young LGBT people in the Cucumber universe; and Tofu, an All 4 documentary series which discussed LGBT issues.
