Lancashire Lightning have re-signed Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell for the 2020 Vitality Blast.

Maxwell, 31, played for the Red Rose across all three formats last summer and will be available for at least the first eight fixtures of the Lightning’s T20 campaign.

The all-rounder won the club’s T20 Player of the Year award in 2019 as the Lightning finished top of the North Group before going out at the quarter-final stage.

The 2015 World Cup winner made 11 appearances on the Lancashire’s route to the quarter-finals, scoring 305 runs at an average of just below 40, as well as taking six wickets and eight catches.

Maxwell, speaking to the Club’s website, has expressed his delight at rejoining the Red Rose.

He said: “Last season was one of the best summers of cricket I have ever experienced and I cannot wait to return to Emirates Old Trafford in 2020.

“We were very unfortunate not to progress further after dominating the North Group and I was so impressed with the talent inside the changing room. I’m very confident we can improve on the quarter-final finish of 2019.

“I have been keeping in touch with the lads ever since I departed in September and I’m already excited to catch up with everyone when I arrive in May.”

Lancashire’s Director of Cricket Paul Allott was also pleased to secure the services of the Australian again, ahead of the 2020 Blast campaign.

Allott said: “Glenn is one of the most sought after players in world cricket and to have signed him again after the enormous impact he made last year is hugely significant as we go in search of a second Vitality Blast title.

“To have a player of his talent on the pitch, as well as the person he is away from the field, can only enhance our prospects in this year’s tournament. He is extremely generous with his time in passing on his experiences to younger players and will no doubt play a huge part in their development once again.

“He firmly embraced himself in the culture of Lancashire Cricket last year, understood the pride in pulling on the Red Rose and we can’t wait to welcome him back to Emirates Old Trafford.”

Maxwell becomes the second player to re-sign for the Lightning ahead of the 2020 Blast campaign after fellow Australian all-rounder James Faulkner was confirmed to be returning for his fourth season at the club, back in December.

Both will be in line to make their Red Rose returns in the Lightning’s opening North Group fixture against the Northants Steelbacks at Liverpool Cricket Club on Friday 29 May.
