We’re all at that stage of missing football where anything that can bring back that feeling of excitement, unpredictability, exceptional highs, and devastating lows, will be received with open arms.
Well the EFL’s decision to work alongside Football Manager to create an FM knockout tournament, would have been very well received by most football fans who are bored of watching reruns of matches from their clubs previous seasons on social media.
Salford City is represented by their center-half Cameron Burgess so if nothing else, they won’t be expecting to concede to many goals.
In a statement from the EFL last Saturday, they said that: “Fifty-four Clubs from across the EFL, each represented by a virtual manager, will face off in a straight knock-out competition with the final two teams left standing facing off in the showpiece final in mid-May.”
The draw which took place on Sunday, sees Salford City get a buy into the second round, where they will host MK Dons.

EFL’s statement also explains how you can watch all the match highlights: “After each round is completed, we’ll be uploading highlights onto the FM YouTube channel for you to catch up on all the action and there will be a full written-round up on the FM website.”
The first round matches started yesterday and will finish on Thursday, so expect the first round highlights to be up sometime on Thursday or Friday if you want to see how the tournament is starting to shape up.

In their statement, the EFL announced that the charity Mind is going to be their official charity partner.
Speaking about the charity Mind, the EFL said: “As well as supporting your team during the tournament, you can also show your support for the EFL’s charity partner, Mind, the mental health charity.
“In these tough times their services are needed more than ever so while you’re being entertained by the action, please consider donating here.”
This tournament is a chance for Salford fans to enjoy seeing their team in action in a competitive environment again, as they take on MK Dons.
They will also hope to go on a cup run similar to their real life one in the Leasing.com Trophy that would have seen them face Portsmouth at Wembley Stadium earlier this month.
