Turnbull

Salford City FC have announced the signing of defender Jordan Turnbull from Northampton Town on a two-year contract.

Turnbull played a pivotal role in helping Northampton achieve promotion to SkyBet League One during the season just gone, playing in the 4-0 win against Exeter City at Wembley in the play-off final.

The 25-year-old joined the Cobblers in January 2018, making just under 100 appearances before leaving for the Peninsula Stadium.

Turnbull becomes Salford’s fourth signing of the Summer and the latest to echo the aspiration of achieving promotion with the Ammies, a feat he managed last season with his old side.

In his first interview with the club, Turnbull said: “I’m very excited to be here, I’m happy it’s all sorted now.

“The vibe around the football club is very exciting, a lot have talked about promotion. When speaking with the manager, the main topic was promotion – it’s what everyone wants and what everyone is working towards.

“I look to go out there and give everything for the team. I’d like to think I bring a little bit of experience even though I’m quite young. I’ve played a lot of games and at this level last season I got promoted, so hopefully a bit of know-how.”

And Ammies manager, Graham Alexander, is delighted to have someone of Turnbull’s calibre and promotion-achieving mindset in a Salford shirt next season.

Alexander added: ““We’re looking for a certain type of profile of player to come in, and he fits all those categories. After meeting him last week up here, he seemed really excited about possibly joining the club straight away, we saw a real desire from him to come here and vice versa with us.

“He’s just come out of a promotion-winning team from this division. What we’re looking at is players that are coming into the club from higher levels, or promotion winners, or captains, and that’s the profile we set out quite a few months ago to bring on board, and we’re delighted to get Jordan’s services for us.”
