Majority of men who might have visited their barber every six to 12 days for a trim, and ladies who might go into the salon for routine colouring or haircuts, are feeling lost. With their barbershops and hairdressers’ shops shut due to Covid-19.

Many businesses have been impacted by the arriving of Covid-19 but barbers and hair salons seemed to have struggled the most.

Barber shops and ladies’ hairdressers were at the highest risk of closing down due to the arriving of COVID-19.

Flanagan’s have revealed they plan to dust off their scissors and reopen to the public on Saturday, July 4th after being shut for months.

Those in desperate need of haircut could be in luck as barbers and salons reopen but the waiting list could be very long.

Speaking to Martin Gibson the manager of Flanagan’s at Mediacity/Manchester city centre, he said: “Covid-19 has affected us due to the closure on 21st of March, we were closed for 3 months.

Which put all our employees out of work and everybody that works for our company is self-employed.”

Dylan Jones an employee at Gents barber said: “we understand that everybody is getting desperate for a haircut and the waiting list is long, but try not to resort to people doing it illegally at home we want you all to be safe.”

Jones is temporally working at Flanagan’s due to Covid-19 having a major impacted on their barber shop.

Many Salford barbers and salons will not be reopening soon due to being affected badly from Covid-19.

Jones added: “We are a much smaller barber shop than Flanagan’s and we could not afford to open because of how expensive the PPE is and the shop was quite even before Covid-19.”

Gibson said: “many of his clients are people who work in offices and them being off has impacted his independent business very much.”

He added we look forward to seeing all our customers soon, we are all PPE read to go.

Gibson shed more light on what his long-term and short-term strategies were for his business and how it will impact him.

“We trying to do as much as we can and we changed business to appointments only so we got clients details, it’s all about track and trace at the moment” said Gibson.

Barber shops and hairdressers with low income will not be able to reopen as PPE equipment is very expensive and single items can only be used once.

Gibson said: “Single use items have limited our budget and we can’t use the same item twice on different clients, it’s also very expensive due to high demand.”

“We are looking forward to seeing all our lovely customers back soon and we will be taking extra precautionary measures to keep all our customers safe” said Gibson.
