Foundation 92

Independent charity Foundation 92 is reaching out to the community in Salford, using football as a tool to impact the lives of others.

Its half-term activities included free sports sessions and delivering free meals across Salford to help young people be healthier in body and mind.

In response to footballer Marcus Rashford’s campaigning for free school meals over the holidays Foundation 92 has been working in partnership with a number of housing associations providing free meals for children.

Cameron Peacock, an employee on Foundation 92’s traineeship programme, appreciates the importance of providing a safe environment for kids to have fun and socialise amid the pandemic.

The charity’s free to access sport sessions engage with young people across Salford, giving them a welcoming environment to express themselves.

Cameron said: “I’ve always had a passion for football and when the opportunity to work here came up, I thought…work and football, that’s great!

“The bigger picture is the community work and the fact that we’re providing some sort of entertainment for young kids, especially at the moment with Covid-19.

“It’s important for kids to get out for their physical health as well as their mental health.”

Community sports coach Regan Russell said: “The first thing for me is being able to have fun.

“If you’re able to develop someone’s confidence and then move onto tactical skills then that’s a bonus.”

Tom Hutton, Head of Foundation 92, said: “I get out of bed everyday because I want to make a difference. I want to help young people.

“I want to help members of the Salford community to lead healthy, prosperous and fulfilling lifestyles.

“I’m a big believer in the nurture and development of local workforces and allowing Salfordians to work for Foundation 92 and give back to their community.”
