Salford City take the short trip to the Spotland Stadium tomorrow as they prepare to take on Rochdale in the EFL Trophy.

All eyes will be on the newly-appointed Richie Wellens who will be looking to add another victory to Saturday’s 2-0 FA Cup victory against Hartlepool United. Two extra time goals saved The Ammies from blushes as the non-league side pushed them into extra time.

Due to Salford having a lesser goal difference, The Ammies need to win to progress out their group. As it stands, Rochdale, Manchester United U21’s and Salford City can all move further in the tournament.

Now, though, their attentions turn to the league above, as Salford look to cause an upset to the League 1 side. Salford fans will be looking to see if new signing George Boyd makes the cut after making his full debut in the last victory in the FA Cup.

Meanwhile, Rochdale are coming off the back of a loss against National League side Stockport County in the FA Cup so this will be music to Salford fans ears, who will be hoping they can pull off a memorable cup win.

The League One outfit have also failed to pick up a win in four successive games, which includes a 3-1 loss to Oxford United and the shock 2-1 loss to Stockport County.

It will be important to see how James Wilson performs as he has been in a rich vein of form recently. Fans will be happy to hear that new manager Wellens will be looking to continue playing the attacking style of football that was an issue under previous manager Graham Alexander.

Salford City have good cup memories as they beat Notts County 2-0 in the FA Cup when they were in League Two, Salford being Non-League at the time.

Rochdale vs Salford City kicks off at 7:00pm at the Spotland Stadium tomorrow.
