A youth centre in Salford is calling on residents to donate a toy to ensure no children miss out this Christmas.

The yearly Christmas toy appeal launched by Youth Unity urges Little Hulton residents to donate things like colouring books & pencils, dolls, games, sweets and toiletries for children up to 16 years old.

Alison Jones works with Youth Unity on Longshaw Drive and described how people can get involved and the importance of donating to the appeal.

Alison said: “We advertise for donations of toys, we get some from local business’.”

Youth Unity takes referrals and tries to match the present to each child and what they would most likely like to receive as a gift.

The toy donations will be accepted until December 11 and referrals are open until December 13.

If you would like to donate, you can drop off gifts in person where the centre has appropriate Covid-19 guidelines to follow.

Alternatively, you can order the gift online straight to the Youth Unity community centre; 27-29 Little Hulton Library, Longshaw Drive, M28 0AZ.

This allows the centre to still receive gifts despite constant changing lockdown measures.

Youth Unity work specifically in the Little Hulton however there are many toy appeals around the Salford area.

Alison said: “You might not feel the pull to Little Hulton Walkden, but other toy appeals are there.

“So if people want to [donate] Wood street mission run a total appeal which covers Manchester and Salford.”

Here is a map of places we currently know of who are holding Christmas toy appeals. These are the places closest to Salford.
