The Makers Market at MediaCityUK offers a safe place for a Christmas shop this weekend, giving the opportunity to get festive, supporting local businesses and creative people while keeping socially distanced.
This Saturday and Sunday, Salford will see the return of The Makers Market with stalls run by artisan makers, bakers and creators selling a range of festive treats on the Piazza outside Quayside Centre and The Lowry.
Event manager Roseann McGlinchey said: “Christmas is often the busiest time for our market traders, with customers out shopping for gifts and delicious foods the market is somewhere they come to find something unique.”
A community of stallholders will provide an array of locally sourced products from cheese and chutneys, candles, and gin to homemade, bespoke jewellery.
The Makers Market has adapted to the current climate with precautions such as a one-way system, extra space between stalls, and sanitising stations.
Ms McGlinchey said: “The markets provide a space for traders to test new ideas in an inexpensive way, build a customer base, meet other traders who are always willing to offer advice and support to new traders. There are so many reasons to become part of the Makers Market family.”
“It has been a difficult year for all our traders, many are small independents who rely on places like the markets to get their products out there and in front of customers. These small businesses are at the heart of many communities and supporting them and helping them to grow provides jobs and income that stays local.
“We have had a lot of new faces have joined us this year, with people having time off from their full-time jobs and with situations changing, lots of people have taken the plunge to start their own business – a brave thing to do.”
“We are seeing a growing demand for small community-based events all over the North West, we have lots of enquiries from new locations so we hope to be able to expand and offer new opportunities to our traders in the new year.”
