Salford City boss Richie Wellens is looking to keep momentum going after victory at Barrow, starting with a win against high-flyers Cheltenham Town on Saturday at the Peninsula Stadium.
Coming into this fixture the Robins currently sit second after four wins in five league games, They are currently seven points better off then the Ammies who sit 8th just outside the play-offs on goal difference.
Speaking on how he expects Cheltenham to approach Saturday’s game, Wellen’s said: “I know their team pretty well, they’ve got three big centre-backs that will dominate balls into the box if you’re not clever.
“They have two front lads that will run channels, that will split and work really hard but if we deal with balls in our box well and get the ball down on the ground, we’ll cause them a lot of problems as well.”
Speaking on potential injuries and team news ahead of Saturday, Wellens said: “Unfortunately Richie (Towell) will be out for a little bit of time – he’s redone the same injury but in a different area.
“Ash Hunter is struggling with his shoulder, Gibson’s out for the season and James Wilson will still be out, so we are quite thin on the ground in terms of numbers but it’s an opportunity for the players to step up and come in and do a job for us.”
With the January transfer window fast approaching, the Ammies boss believes he has to be smart with his business despite the lack of squad depth, saying: “There’s less money, we’ve spent the majority of our budget in the summer so there’s no point agents ringing us and saying their players want this amount and that amount, we have to wheel and deal.
“There’s going to need to be movement out before we can bring players in.”
Speaking to Salford Now about how the players have responded to his playing style, Wellens said; “One thing I will say about the players is every single one of them is giving full commitment, the work ethic and attitude has been outstanding and that’s the biggest thing for me.
“I do think now we can start taking on board new information and getting our passing angles right to make us more fluent, along with that effort and determination, our ability and passing is starting to get going.”
Salford v Cheltenham will kick off at 15:00 GMT tomorrow at the Peninsula Stadium.
