A Salford nursing home for veterans, which launched a Movember fundraising moustache growing challenge that raised over £1,200, has revealed the winner of the competition.
Broughton House on Park Lane encouraged Salfordians to grow the best facial hair they can this month to raise money in support of their Veteran residents.
D-Day Veteran and Formal Royal Marine Commando, 96-year-old George Simms who is a resident at the home judged the competition.
Mr Simms ended up choosing this mega moustache from Chris!

Laura Carr, who works at Broughton House, said: “We all thought they [moustache submissions] looked fabulous! George was particularly pleased with their efforts, but we all know his moustache beats them all.”
Fundraisers like the Movember challenge are so important to the veterans. The £1,245 raised will be going straight into looking after the residents.
Laura said: “The money raised from the Movember Challenge will go towards the cost of care for our veteran residents.
“We are forever grateful to everyone who supports us and the November Challenge was taken up by George’s friends and family which made it extra special.”

Laura explained: “We currently have a Buy a Bauble fundraiser where individuals can donate to put a bauble alongside a message onto the Broughton House tree. The support we’ve received so far has been really heart-warming, the fundraiser ends on 23rd December.”T

The home is gearing up for Christmas and ensuring the residents have the more lovely time around the festive period.
Laura said: “We’ve been decorating the house and have received a lot of Christmas cards from local schools and the local community which has been making our residents feel very festive.”
