The Salford Rum Company is celebrating after landing a deal to branch out into 14 Morrisons stores.

The distiller’s Dark Rum became available in 90 Co-op convenience stores nationwide last month and will roll out in Morrisons in the next week.

Co-founder of Salford Rum, Tommy Gaughan, said: “This listing is a huge step forward for the brand, and we are so pleased that local fans of Salford Rum can grab a bottle of Dark Spice while they do their weekly shop.

“We see it as the start of something big and we wouldn’t be where we are without the unwavering support of our loyal customer base that has stuck by us for the last two and a half years.”

The Salford Rum Company spiced rum celebrates the heritage of Salford Docks throughout the late 1800’s and early 1900’s and was inspired by the Caribbean imports that arrived there.

The rum delivers notes of vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger and dried fruits.

It is also copper column distilled in small batches before being hand-bottled a small distance away from Salford Docks.

The bottle is based on a 1900 map of the docks in a doodle style illustrated by Manchester artist, Dave Draws who specialises in doodle maps of different cities and towns.

In an effort to reduce plastic waste, the illustration is screen-printed onto the bottle.

Salford Dark Spice rum retails at £26 for 70cl in the 14 Morrisons stores.

The stores include Chorlton, Denton, Dukinfield, Eccles, Failsworth, Oldham (Chadderton), Openshaw, Stockport (Bredbury and Cheadle Heath), Swinton, Whitefield and in Manchester city centre; Grafton Street and Piccadilly Gardens.

The Salford Rum’s Spice Rum was also voted as one of 2021’s best rums by Esquire.

The rum was launched in August 2018 at a local Makers Market and two and a half years on they have landed in Greater Manchester stores.
