Salford’s Seven Brothers Middlewood Locks beer house has become a drop off point for period poverty charity, Every Month.
Every Month is a charity helping tackle period poverty across Greater Manchester.
Salford local Rosy Candlin founded the charity back in 2016, she began the charity after she found out there was no guaranteed way to access sanitary products if you cannot afford them.
In the UK, 1 in 10 girls can’t afford to buy menstrual products, while 1 in 7 have struggled to afford them, according to a representative survey of 1,000 girls and young women aged 14-21 by Plan International UK.
Every Month creates and distributes packs of menstrual products to food banks and women’s refuge shelters.
On average they make up 800 packages a month, these packs include tampons, sanitary pads, wipes and chocolate.
Whilst their mission is to help those with lack of access to products, they are also committed to breaking down the taboo surrounding menstruation and poverty.
Menstruation is a shared experience among all females and yet the stigma that surrounds it makes many women uncomfortable with discussing it.
The charities aim is to change this by creating an open and honest discussion about periods without the stigma attached to it.
The charity hopes to one day achieve success of the government providing access to sanitary products for everyone in need.
