Salford business owners have welcomed National Own Business Day, which honours those who have set up their own companies across the country.

National Own Business Day is celebrated in the UK on every second Tuesday of October. The initiative, started by Metro encourages people to get out and enjoy all their favourite businesses, with their website encouraging people to ‘slow down and take in all the flavours, the smiles, the services.’

This day gives business owners in Salford something to celebrate – from being open for almost a decade, to the joy of being able to employ people.

Cheryl Dwyer from Faith’s Florist, a family business that has been open in Ordsall for almost nine years, spoke about what her business and this day means to her: “It is really hard, and you do hope people will support you

“It is obviously a lot of dedication and being passionate about your career and what you love.”

But it’s not just long service and loving your career that make owning your own business so special. Amin Rasmshini is one of two owners at Avesta Hair and Beauty based in Salford Quays.

For him, being able to employ others evokes a pride about his business: “It’s just rewarding that some other people are benefitting from what you created.”

And about National Business Day? Well in his opinion, it’s almost a rite of passage: “Obviously we have national days for pretty much everything else so it’s good to have one for business owners, self-employed people and company owners.

“It’s just a celebration like everything else.”
