With Halloween approaching, here are some of the events happening in and around Salford in the half-term holidays.

If you fancy something different, Salford Watersports Centre is hosting a spooky swim on the 28th of October.

Kicking off at 18:30pm, you can swim for as long as you feel comfortable and look forward to a nice warm cup of soup afterwards. They said on social media: “This is our favourite swim of the year and each year it gets bigger and better thanks to the support of our fantastic swim community!”

To continue the water theme, Manchester River Cruises are organising a Halloween Boat Party on the 29th of October.

They said on their website: “Jump aboard Manchester’s number one party boat for a night of dastardly tunes that will you dancing the night away.”

For family friendly events, turn to Light Oaks Park where the Friends of the Park are organising a Halloween party filled ghoulish activities and treats. With pumpkin carving competitions, face painting and a Halloween themed treasure hunt; there are plenty of opportunities to celebrate Halloween safely this year.

The party will be held on the 31st of October from 2:00pm onward.

Buile Hill Park will also be host to some spooky thrills this Halloween weekend. On the 30th of October, Buile Hill Mansion Association is organising a fun-filled afternoon with a Halloween garden, spooky storytelling and temporary tattoos.

Fat Out Fest starts on the 29th of October and runs through to the 31st. Starting in 2011 and running sporadically since; Fat Out Fest blends different musical genres and cultures together in a festival spread out in different venues across Salford.

They said on the Islington Mill website: “Fat Out has grown from humble DIY punk roots into a force to be reckoned with in the Salford/Manchester Independent music scene.”

Held in places like the Old Pint Pot and the White Hotel, the festival ends with a Halloween-themed club night.

Dukes Drive in Monton will be host to a monster hunt on the 27th of October in and around the park.

Organised by the Salford Ranger Team, activity sheets will be handed out to help explore the park and find all the monsters. The event is free, but booking is encouraged which can be done by emailing rangers@salford.gov.uk

To get into the autumn spirit, there will be a Pumpkin Hunt in and around the woodland at Damhouse, Astley on the 30th of October.

The hunt takes place between 10:00 to 15:00 and tickets are £2.50 per child. For more information email info@damhouse.net or phone 01942 876417.

Also, throughout the school holidays Salford Museum and Art Gallery are decorating their Victorian street re-creation, with spooks to find and holding afternoon teas in the café.
They said: “The spooky selection includes sandwiches, a choice of soft or hot drink for adults, with a selection of spooky cakes.”
