The Salford Lightwaves festival will be closed this evening as a result of Storm Barra.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning due to the storm, which is in place until midnight tonight.

Event organisers, Quays Culture, said on their facebook post at 13:00 “The safety of our staff and visitors is paramount, and we want you to have the best experience when you visit.

“Thankfully the forecast looks more settled for the rest of the week and we hope to be open as planned tomorrow.

“We’re sorry for any disappointment and really appreciate your understanding. Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you later in the week.”

This comes as the inflatable art feature, “Floating Earth” by Luke Jerram, deflated earlier this week.

The festival runs until the 12th of December.
