The Government has instructed Greater Manchester to introduce a #CleanAirZone to reduce harmful air pollution on local roads.
The Clear Air Zone Financial Support Scheme will help people to either replace or retrofit non-complaint vehicles so that they meet emission standards.
Transport for Greater Manchester said on Twitter: “The zone will be introduced on 30th May 2022, making our city-region safer for everyone.”

They have designed this to protect everyone’s health by bringing harmful nitrogen dioxide air pollution at the roadside within legal limits as soon as possible.
Some vehicles do not meet emission standards, non-compliant vehicles will be charged to drive in the Clean Air Zone.
Buses, coaches and heavy goods vehicles will be made to pay £60 from 30th May 2022. Vans and minibuses will be made to pay £10 from 1st June 2023. Cabs and private hire vehicles will be made to pay £7.50 from 30th May 2022.
Private cars, motorbikes and mopeds aren’t affected by the scheme.
Clean Air Greater Manchester said: “We want people to switch to cleaner, compliant vehicles before the zone is launched 0 and not pay a daily charge.”
The Government website states: “Poor air quality is the largest environmental risk to public health in the UK.”
