Salford vaccine

New rules state that from today anyone that has come into close contact with someone that has tested positive with Covid-19 can only avoid a mandatory 10 day self isolation period if they have been double jabbed.

This move could encourage employers to ask for all employees vaccination status from the get-go so that they aren’t left in a situation where they would be forced to shutdown their business due to someone testing positive and it having a domino effect if their employees are unvaccinated.

A contentious issue for the whole of the country, Salford is no different. Salford had one of the lowest vaccination rates in the country back in September. Much of Salford continues to be on the lower end of the spectrum although there are areas in Greater Manchester with lower figures such as the surrounding area around the University of Manchester.

Locals on both sides of the fence reacted to the news, with some being strongly in favour of further restrictions, and some being vehemently against them.

“I absolutely agree with this. Employers have a duty to protect all their staff and customers. This is a public health emergency and unprecedented in modern times. Basically unvaccinated people are relying on the vaccinated ones to keep them safe. Too many people are believing the anti vax rubbish they are reading on the internet. If people had done that years ago we would still have polio and smallpox rife and killing people, people then trusted medical professionals and had vaccines” said Julie Smith.

Wendy Olsen-Coady said on the issue “It’s ridiculous. Their status has nothing to do with their employment. People should have autonomy over their own bodies and what person a has done is nothing of person bs business. It’s ridiculous. Their status has nothing to do with their employment. People should have autonomy over their own bodies and what person a has done is nothing of person bs business”.

Some were merely concerned about the application of the rule and wanted to see how it would be implemented, Marek Sobieski said “Employers should have to to demonstrate how this is relevant before being able to request such information – for example, there is absolutely no need to do this if the employee is 100% work from home”.

Others had questions about the extent of the rules “Do the employers have to also prove their vaccination status to all their employees?” asked Gayle Buckley.
