‘CommUnity Little Hulton’ have made up more than 400 toy bags from donations this year, they will be given to local Children who deserve a bit more this Christmas.

With donations from local schools like St Edmunds, anonymous cash donations, and supermarkets like Tescos, the team have been able to make up 400 bags of gifts. Each bag will be given to children who have been referred to the centre by places such as local help groups and doctors and schools.

This is the sixth year that CommUnity has had a Christmas toy appeal.

Emma O’Donnell, an assistant community development worker at CommUnity Little Hulton, said: ” The people of Little Hulton and the surrounding areas have been so amazing over these past years. They have helped us help Santa get gifts to children who may not get a visit.

“We have really been overwhelmed and are always so grateful for the donations we receive.”

As well as bringing some Christmas joy to the younger members of the community, the charity is also doing wellbeing Christmas packs for isolated elderly people in the community who just can’t make it out.

The packs contain items such as mince pies, hot chocolate with marshmallows, socks and many more winter essentials. At least 70 wellbeing packs will be given out to the community this Christmas.

A weekly food market is also held at the centre, and for £2.50 or less, you can get a minimum of 12 food items from freezer items to veg and cakes. No one has turned away from the centre, with each week bringing at least 10-15 new faces to the market. Staff believe this is due to the £86million benefit cut before Christmas, meaning people need more help to get essential items.

CommUNITY Little Hulton was set up by local Little Hulton residents as a legacy organisation of Little Hulton Big Local. Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic the centre has raised £71,500 in funding to support essential work in the community.
