Salford City midfielder Ryan Watson has expressed his confidence that Salford are more than capable of achieving promotion this year.

Watson, who has played every single minute since joining Gary Bowyer’s side in January, has settled in well to life in Greater Manchester.

He said: “It’s been pretty easy (settling in) to be fair, it’s a good group of players and staff and everyone’s been very welcoming so I’m really enjoying it.”

It is no wonder Watson is enjoying his football so much at the moment. Since joining the Ammies in January, he has played every single minute – including an unbeaten week in London for their last two games with a goalless draw against Sutton United and a 2-0 win against Leyton Orient.

Watson said: “I came to play football and I want to play every minute of every game and help the team as much as I can.

“I’ve only scored one goal at the minute but I’m getting in the right places for chances and goals to come, but as long as the team are winning then that’s the main thing.”

Salford are currently sat 10th in League Two with only five points separating them and a playoff place. Speaking about Salford’s potential to challenge for a promotion spot, Watson said: “I think it’s there for us, there’s a lot of games to go and a lot of points to be played for so I think its definitely achievable.

“Especially because we seem to be hitting good form at the moment it’s definitely something that we speak about as something that’s definitely on the cards for us.

“I feel like with the group of players we’ve got we should be in and around there by the end of the season.”

The Ammies face Crawley Town this Saturday, who sit only a few points behind Salford with a game in hand, although Watson insists that they won’t be treating this game differently to any other.

He said: “We’ve got to concentrate on ourselves.

“It’s just the next game and we want to get three points in every fixture so it doesn’t matter if we’re playing Crawley or whoever else. Although it will be an added bonus if we win because they’re in and around us.”

Crawley come into the game off the back of defeat last week to Hartlepool whereas Salford are unbeaten in their last three and Salford’s number seven is confident that they’re able to pick up another three points.

Watson said: “Every game in the league is difficult, but I feel as though every game is winnable. I don’t think there’s much from top to bottom because it’s a very tight league.

“Everyone in the league is beatable, we should be going into every game confident that we can get three points.

“I don’t feel like we’ve got anything to fear in this league.”
