Walkden Cricket Club first XI fell to a heavy defeat, losing by 101 runs as they were bowled out for 69 at Tonge.

The biggest positive of the day for Walkden was Adnan Mufti’s performance during the Tonge innings of 170. He took six wickets while conceding 33 runs as he dismissed Freddie Oliver and Jack Smith for ducks.

However Walkden could only manage 69 in reply, with Umar Butt top-scoring with 20 runs at the top of the order. This was closely followed by Abdullah Ishaq’s late-order knock of 15.

Connor Lord took an impressive five-wicket haul for the home side. Tonge’s Sam Hardman scored a 60 whereas the side’s pro was desperately close to a half-century, scoring 48 runs.

After two successive defeats, Walkden will be hoping for a better result on Saturday 30th April when they host Eagley. Last time out, Eagley fell to defeat in a close-run game versus Farnworth, scoring 221 runs as Farnworth scored 236.

Eagley batsmen Asif Hussain and Martin Eccles could prove difficult for the Walkden bowling attack to cope with as they scored 66 and 67 against Farnworth respectively.
