A 71-year-old man has died after being hit by a car in Salford.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene on Eccles Old Road around 9pm on Saturday.

He was struck by a car as he attempted to cross the second lane near the junction with Manor Road.

A 68-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody.

The Greater Manchester Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit is appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

Police are also keen to speak to anyone who may have any footage from the area in the moments leading up to the collision.
