Salford police are appealing for information after a suspected firearm was brandished at an officer in Broughton.
Shortly after 12pm today, (Tuesday 20 May) an officer on duty in the Broughton area of Salford observed a group “riding e-bikes dangerously and behaving anti-socially on Great Clowes Street.”
And as the officer approached the group, one of the individuals “brandished a suspected firearm in his face.”
The officer deployed his Taser, and additional patrols were immediately dispatched to the scene – with the surrounding area currently taped off.
Salford police do not believe there is a risk to the wider public – with support from NPAS (National Police Air Service) and armed officers, two men were detained on North George Street, Salford.
Salford GMP shared in a statement: “An e-bike was recovered on Fenny Street, and a suspected firearm was found on Upper Camp Street.
“Scenes remain in place, and road closures are ongoing while further enquiries are conducted.”
Following the incident, Detective Superintendent Simon Moyles from our Salford district said: “This incident is entirely unacceptable and highlights how quickly situations faced by our frontline officers can escalate.
“Our officers work tirelessly to keep our communities safe and should never be placed in such danger.
“We will always use every resource available to bring those responsible to justice. No one is above the law, and we will not tolerate this kind of behaviour on our streets.”
