Salford City have completed the signing of free agent Ollie Turton following his exit from Huddersfield Town.

The 32-year-old, who has put pen to paper on an undisclosed contract, made 28 appearances in League One last season for the West Yorkshire side.

He has become Salford’s ninth summer signing, joining as part of a squad overhaul aimed at delivering promotion to the third tier.

The versatile defender played a key role in achieving promotion during his time at Crewe and Blackpool and is targeting further success at the Peninsula Stadium:

“I am absolutely buzzing that it is all done, and I cannot wait to get going and get back to playing football again.

“Looking at this club from the outside, it is clear that they have got massive ambitions. Having met with the manager, Karl, and speaking with him as well, it sounds like this is a really good place to be. Those ambitions of going up the leagues, well, I am all for that. I still want to get those promotions and achieve things, so this was the perfect fit for me.

“I have come here to play and play as many games as I can. The end goal is to be successful and get a promotion, which I think everyone wants, so I am fully driven to try and help do that.”

Turton will wear the number six shirt, and his registration has been completed in time for him to be in contention for selection on Saturday when Salford travel to Notts County (12:30pm Kick-off).

Karl Robinson’s side are aiming to bounce back from their underwhelming 3-1 defeat to Crewe Alexandra on the opening day of the season.

After the loss, Salford’s head coach was disappointed with the “preventable goals” his team conceded and he will be hopeful that Turton’s arrival will make the team more watertight.
