An exhibition of photographs and words from local carers will open its doors at Walkden Library this month.
Caregiving, the joint creation of photographer Fiona Robinson and writer Pauline Rowe, aims to raise awareness for the number of people currently caring for others and the impact this work has on them.
Funded by a National Lottery project grant from Arts Council England, Robinson and Rowe have worked with family carers to capture their personal experiences through photography and creative writing.
Fiona, who runs the project, said: “I’m a photographer and have been running a project with carers, mainly from Salford, though a few from wider Greater Manchester, with photography and creative writing workshops over the last few months. The exhibition is the collective output of the project.

“Many people who are caring for family do not realise that they are doing so for several years, and therefore miss out on the support that can be available.
“I was keen to develop this project as I used photography as a way of helping me process the emotions associated with caring for my late husband, who had young-onset dementia, and realised that other carers may find it helpful.
“I have worked closely with Gaddum Carers and Coproduction and the Empowered Conversations team at Age UK.
“Workshops were hosted at Humphrey Booth Dementia Resource Centre in Swinton, and online to make it easier for some people to access them.”
The exhibtion runs from the 21st November all the way through to the 24th December. It is hosted at Walkden Library in Worsley and is free for everyone to attend.
