A Salford food bank has thanked the community for its generosity as the demand for its services “massively increases”.

During a donation day held this weekend (November 30), More 4 Less Food Club at St.Clements Church collected 10 trolleys full of food to share out with its members.

At the event, held at Sainsbury’s on Regent Road, the food bank signed up 15 new members, with organisers saying that the need for the food bank is greater than ever.

Following the donation day, the charity said: “Each week we are seeing more and more families and individuals coming through our doors struggling with the rise of the cost of living.

“We current serve over 300 members a month and this is massively increasing. Not only did we have so many generous amazing people donating to our club,  so many people came through the doors apologising because they couldn’t afford to buy anything to donate.

“Which is where we made them aware that no matter their circumstances they are welcome to join our club.”

“We had nearly 15 new memberships on Sunday. And that felt more rewarding knowing we can help more and more people.

“This is my first event at Sainsburys, and we are hoping to do these quarterly. We had the fantastic support and help of Brendan Keville our local councillor who organised this for us and spent countless hours with us prepping and also his whole Sunday stood there with us helping and supporting.”

The charity is offering 10 items of food, toiletries or household goods for £3 per shop and are open Monday and Friday 12pm to 2pm and Saturday 9:30 am to 11:30am.

Councillor Brendan Keville commented: “Thank you to the volunteers Sam, Val, Karen, Eddie and Cllr Tanya Burch and thank you to everyone who donated to the More 4 Less Food Club food donation drive on Sunday.

“Thanks again to team at Sainsbury’s Salford for hosting. We had more than 10 trolleys of donations which will be great help to so many in the community.”
