A primary school teacher from Pendlebury was brought to tears after finding out she was shortlisted for a National teaching award.

Amy Green from St Augustine’s Church of England Primary School has been recognised for her outstanding effort in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). In a result, The ‘Educate awards’ have shortlisted Amy for the Teacher Of The Year Award.

In a profession full of dedicated teachers, Amy stands out for turning a simple promise- to give every child the best start in life.

Headteacher of St Augustine’s, Emma Dilworth,  is “absolutely delighted” that Amy has been shortlisted for the award.

“It was a top-secret mission and we didn’t share that we were nominating her”, she continued.

As part of the school nominating her for the award, Emma secretly sent out emails to the parents of the school children to gather a heap of positive evidence.

Amy goes ‘above and beyond’ in her job.

She asked for their thoughts regarding the hardworking teacher as well as getting the children involved. The school made a heart-warming video of the pupils discussing Mrs green along with a meaningful written letter.

Amy was brought to tears when she learnt she was in the shortlist for the Teacher Of The Year award.

Her initial response was “why, why why”, to which proud headteacher, Emma replied: “Because you are amazing.”

Amy said: “My first thought was to cry. I couldn’t quite get my head around it because you just think you’re doing your job.”

The shortlist from the Educate Awards celebrates the exceptional teachers and inspirational support staff whose passion and dedication continue to transform lives and strengthen communities.

Teacher, Mrs Green, has put in the hard work which has ultimately paid off. She’s ensured that children furthest from advantage make exceptional progress, entering year one, ahead of national average with confidence and capability.

The sparkly award up for grabs.

Kim O’Brien, founder of Educate Awards congratulated Amy on the news.

She said: “Selecting the shortlist has been no mean feat for our judges and we are now looking forward to celebrating with all finalists as we prepare to roll out our iconic red carpet in November for an awards ceremony befitting our fifteenth anniversary.”

Amy is looking forward to an evening of celebration along with other shortlisted nurseries, schools, colleges, multi academy trusts and guests can look forward to an evening of show-stopping entertainment and talented schools across the region.
