AS if a spot in the third-round of the FA Cup wasn’t enough of a carrot for the Macclesfield Town players, a local furniture outlet has given the Silkmen’s first team squad an added piece of motivation to pull off an FA Cup shock tonight against Oxford United.

Should John Askey’s side defeat their League One opponents in their second-round replay each squad member will receive a king-sized bed from the club’s main sponsors, Arighi Bianchi, as reward for their efforts.

Speaking to the club’s official site, director of the home furniture store Nick Bianchi said: “The players are doing the town incredibly proud and as main sponsor we want to reward them for that!

“At the beginning of the season I sat down with John (Askey) and Steve (Watson) to explain that as main sponsors of this fantastic Football Club we wanted to give something back to the players.

Macclesfield Town“So after our excellent performance against Oxford we got together at Arighi Bianchi and decided that if we get through the replay we will give each member of the first-team a King size bed with our compliments.

“I hope we do it and I hope this can be a little carrot for the team when they are travelling down to the game. Fingers crossed on Wednesday morning the team are beating the doors of Arighi Bianchi down to get their bed!”

The Silkmen are in good form of late, unbeaten in their last four matches including last Tuesday’s comprehensive 3-0 win at Wrexham, and have progressed to the second round of the Cup with victories away at North Ferriby United and Oxford’s League One rivals Walsall.

Alongside new beds Macclesfield Town will also earn a trip to Championship strugglers Rotherham United in the third-round should they leave the Kassam Stadium victorious.

Keep in touch with Quays News for updates on how the Silkmen get on this evening.
