Virtual reality  could change the world of sport, according to specialists at Digital Sport.

Latest VR and augmented reality (AR) kits were trialled last week at The University of Salford in MediaCityUK, allowing audience members to try it out for themselves.

Visitors were also shown the VR experience filmed at Salford City FC.

Virtual Reality is a new technological craze for which users wear a pair of goggles which allows them to play sporty games without physically moving a muscle.

Guests from the likes of Liverpool FC, Sportego and Digtal Sport itself joined a panel session with the audience.

In a press release, Digital Sport said: “Not only are the headliners mentioned in the title going to be imparting their wisdom, but also more immersive experiences will be on display, too.

Liverpool FC’s biggest piece of Virtual Reality in recent times was their 360 ‘Inside Anfield’ video with the club’s sponsor Standard Chartered.

Sportego, another one of the companies on the panel for the event, take a “360° approach to fan engagement by auditing fan data and the fan experience.” In their fan engagement mobile app called Fanlink, they have embedded hidden content in club crests, sponsor logos and matchday programmes.

This has allowed fans to discover content in a novel way as well as ensuring fans engage with sponsors.

Mi Hiepa however, have a different approach to Virtual Reality which takes away from the fan engagement side which is most commonly focused on, by turning the attention to helping player performance.

All three of these important figures in Virtual Reality will appear as guests at the event tomorrow in Salford.

Digital Sport also said: “We’ll be looking to tap into the expertise of our guest speakers to follow on from some of the topics raised in the recent #DSLondon event. Taking an honest approach to where we are with the technology and how it can benefit the sports industry.”

Tickets for the event are free for students, whilst general attendee tickets are £10 and can be purchased here.
