The Diocese of Salford holds a pilgrimage to Lourdes, France every year. A group of younger volunteers called The Sister Mary Kelly group are raising funds in order to volunteer for the 87th year.

SMK is a group formed by volunteers that used to be students at the Holy Cross College. The students were part of a volunteering act to help the sick and elderly on their travels when visiting Lourdes and wanted to continue their roles in volunteering.

The group have previously done many other volunteering acts. This is to raise money to fund their volunteering in Lourdes. In 2017, one of the groups fundraisers was to complete a 5000ft climb and a 24.5 mile journey across Yorkshire three peaks. They set up a JustGiving page for this event and exceeded their target of £500 with raising nearly double.

The Salford Lourdes Pilgrimage are often holding events to raise funds.

SMK will be holding a quiz night on Saturday April 6th at the Servite Parish Centre in Salford to raise as much money as possible to be able to volunteer again next year.

The quiz night is open to anyone of all ages with a separate children’s quiz for children to participate in.

The group posted on Facebook asking for parents to bring their children along to the event: “the more the merrier!”.

There are ‘amazing prizes’ to be won on the quiz and also the raffle that is being held.

More information on prizes will be revealed closer to the night of the function.

Tickets can be bought at £5 for an adult, £3 for a child and a family deal (two adults and two children) for £13. Food is also included in the ticket price.

This years pilgrimage is from Thursday 25th July to Wednesday 31st July 2019.
