Coronation Street star Andrew Whyment was announced second place in Sunday night’s ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here’ final after being edged out by fellow soap star Jacqueline Jossa.

The 38-year-old who currently lives in Walkden with his family surpassed bookies favourites Roman Kemp and global superstar Caitlyn Jenner on his way to the final before falling just short to the EastEnders actress.

Whyment, who attended St Ambrose Barlow RC High School in Swinton, is best known for his role as Kirk Sutherland came in to the process as a late entry along with actor Cliff Parisi but instantly became a popular figure amongst his camp mates and viewers alike.

“You know how much a fan I am of this show and to get to the final… It was a lot harder than I thought.” Whyment told Ant and Dec before the show’s winner was announced.

“It’s when you watch at home you only see an hour you don’t see how much work goes into keeping the camp running when there’s 12 of you in there.”

Summarizing his experience on the show, the soap star told the TV duo : “I’ve loved every minute of it, at times it’s been tough missing Nic and the kids but what an experience I’ve had.

“I feel so honoured to finally to it, and I made the final, so thank you.”

Branded by viewers as ‘The Terminator’ for his impressive performance on the shows’ popular celebrity cyclone trial, Whymant participated in his fair share of challenges along the way, including the notorious eating trial and ‘Pump of Peril.’

Despite his disappointment, an emotional Whyment was seen reunited with his wife Nicola Willis and two children at Queensland’s luxury Palazzo Versace hotel.

To see how Andy and the rest of the camp fared after life in the jungle together, tune into Thursday’s coming out show on ITV from 21:00.
