Former Premier League footballer Darron Gibson whose played for Manchester United, Everton, Sunderland and Wigan has signed for Salford City on a short-term loan.

He has been training with the club in recent weeks and initially Salford had no plans to offer him a contract but a change of heart sees Gibson back at a club after being released by Wigan in the summer.

It comes at the end of an extremely busy winter window for the Ammies; who signed another former Manchester United player James Wilson from Aberdeen, Ash Eastham from Fleetwood Town, Ash Hunter on loan from Fleetwood Town, George Tanner on loan from Manchester United, Michael O’Connor on loan from Lincoln City, Bruno Andrade from Lincoln City and Tom Elliot from Millwall.

The reaction on Twitter has largely been positive but also shocked by Salford’s signing and here’s a look at what some people have said.

With his quality and experience Gibson’s signing completes a successful transfer window for Salford City as they look to continue their impressive form and push into the play-off positions before the end of the season.
