Salford-based soap opera Coronation Street will be celebrating its 60th anniversary on the week beginning Monday 7th December.

The show is celebrating the special anniversary with ‘sensational storylines and special programmes’ featured in three- hour long specials which are set to take viewers into 2021 according to ITV.

The storylines featured will include the conclusion of the much-anticipated trial of Yasmeen along with Ray Crosby’s development which plans to destroy the famous street.

The show is Guinness World Record holding, by being longest running British soap, with over 10,000 episodes since its premier in 1960.

With each episode frequently topping over 7 million viewers, the anniversary is set to be one of the most famous in the show’s history.

The show has been filmed on the MediaCityUK compound since 2014, after its move from the old Granada Studios and surrounding area, which was home to the show for more than 50 years.

Coronation Street has a rich, long- standing relationship with the City of Salford. From the screenwriters to the actors and actresses involved throughout the shows history, Coronation Street embodies everything that is Salford.
