Stage directions are hosting a series of free workshops on Digital Arts, Design and Fabrication and Technical Theatre at the Lowry.
The workshops, in partnership with the University of Salford, Walk the Plank and The Lowry, will take place on the 9th and 10th April 2022.
They are accessible to Salford teenagers aged 13-18, who are interested in learning backstage skills.
Stage directions are a theatre making programme for young people in Salford. Since launching in 2019, they have provision to introduce young people to different career elements and paths.
Emily, the offstage assistant for Stage Directions, explains the teenagers taking part will “begin their creations in April, then there are five workshops in May on a Thursday evening.”
Participants will have the opportunity to work with professional theatre creators to work towards the design and creative elements for a brand new piece of theatre produced by Girl Gang and Pendleton College.
Emily expresses: “They can come and take part in one of the groups on the weekend, learn new skills and work with professional artists.”
The three workshops give teenagers an opportunity to get involved with the arts and show them the different sides to theatre.
The digital arts workshops focus on learning camera skills and editing, perfect for teens dreaming of creating their own films.
The technical theatre workshops involve learning what goes on behind the scenes, such as the lights, sound and stage management.
Design and fabrication gives the opportunity to get hands on with making props and sets.

On behalf of Stage Directions, Emily said: “We are really excited to finally be able to host this event and have young people engaging with us with offstage work!”
With no experience needed and all equipment provided by the team, signing up to be an offstage ensemble will allow the groups to be taught backstage skills.
