FOLLOWING a six day investigation into the death of Caspar Blackburn, 22, requests have been made to increase the safety by the canals.
A petition has been created in the hopes of getting the council to work towards implementing more railing and CCTV cameras in an effort to prevent incidents like this from happening again.
“We believe that if CCTV was there we would have found him quicker and if there were railings and street lighting he may never have fallen in,” says Paris Lee of Timperley on the petition’s page.
“We would like to raise awareness due to many people being found in the canal as it is a very dangerous place.”
The petition is seeking 15,000 signatures to send to the council, and at the time of writing, has well over 10,000 on the page.
Additionally, there is also a crowd-sourced fundraiser set up to cover the costs of the funeral which, at the of writing, has raised nearly £8000.
