Council tax is set to rise by nearly 5% and rents by 7% as Salford City Council proposes “tough choices” to balance its budget.
City mayor Paul Dennett accepted that the proposal was a “blow to many residents”.
Tenants who pay rent on a 48-week basis will see rent prices increase by an additional £316.16 per year under the proposed new budget.
Residents on a 52-week basis would see rent increase from £86.63 per week to £92.69, over £300 annually.
The council tax rise is made up of a 2.99% increase in core council tax and additional 2% for adult social care.
The budget, which was set out by the Salford City Council last week, is to be voted on in an upcoming meeting.
Paul Dennett said: “The budget has been agreed in the context of a background of economic and social instability and shocks. The cost-of-living crisis has affected every aspect of our lives and that of the council.
“Ultimately the council must face a choice between accepting government’s suggested increase or failing to adequately provide services on which our residents rely.
“This is my seventh budget and as ever there have been tough choices.
“The housing crisis remains at the forefront of our priorities and we will continue to work towards providing homes to address the continued housing crisis.”
