The Lowry Academy

The Mayor Paul Dennett and MP Barbara Keeley have congratulated The Lowry Academy for their ‘Good’ Ofsted rating.

Through the inspection completed on February 7/8, Ofsted concluded that the secondary school in Little Hulton has gone through a “positive transformation”.

Ofsted’s previous inspection of The Lowry Academy in 2023 said that “due to weaknesses in the quality of education provided by the school, pupils did not achieve as well as they should.”

However, this new report states that the school has “worked systematically to address these weaknesses” and that pupils who attend school regularly now learn
and achieve well.

The Mayor, Paul Dennett, commented on Twitter (X): “This is a excellent result which reflects years of hard work and dedication from staff, students and the local community.”

The report further concluded that pupils joining the school, whether in year 7 or at other times, “quickly settle in”. The report stated that this is due to clear and well-adopted routines for how pupils should learn and behave.

In addition, the report stated the school has strengthened its processes to identify pupils with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities). The staff at The Lowry Academy also make “sensitive adaptations” that enable these pupils to progress.

The report did highlight although that the school does have room for improvements. According to the report too many pupils are “persistently absent” from school which Ofsted said prevents some students from achieving all that they should.

Furthermore, Ofsted stated that The Lowry Academy need to devote more time teaching the social and health education programme to older pupils. The programme, which informs students about finance, healthy relationships and other topics, should be taught more frequently, particularly towards Year 11 students.
